Filmmaker Ismail Merchant passed away today at the age of 68.
The other half of Merchant Ivory productions, Merchant produced a slew of acclaimed and popular films usually labeled as "art films," like A Room With a View and Howards End.
If you've never seen a Merchant Ivory film though, do yourself a favor and check them out, especially Maurice and Remains of the Day. You can get most of their films now on DVD from The Criterion Collection.
