state of the nation...

From the beginning of his campaign, President Obama has been more progressive with digital technology than any other candidate, let alone president elect.

Although it's in direct competition with my podcast, I highly recommend subscribing to his weekly address video podcast here. In the first podcast alone I'm extremely impressed at the amount of information he's provided in just 5 minutes. It's uplifting, reassuring, and I really hope he keeps this up.

It's kind of like a Fireside Chat, except if your iPod gets that warm, you may want to take it into an Apple Store.

updike at rest...

R.I.P.
March 18, 1932 – January 27, 2009

John Updike was one of the great writers of our time and while his novels will surely be missed, I'm really going to miss his passionate book reviews in the Times as well as his pieces in The New Yorker. Rabbit, Run is one of the all-time greatest novels, so if you haven't yet read it, now's the perfect time to add it to your Goodreads list.

I'm so enamored by Carrie Fisher's new book's cover...
It's just so brilliantly on the mark that I hope to see a few ladies dressed as stoned Carrie Fisher at next week's ComicCon. That would be awesome.

dark knight...

Hulu.com apparently thinks it's appropriate to celebrate the new presidency and upcoming Black History Month by offering up Martin Lawrence's Black Knight, in which "street smart" Jamal Walker falls into a moat at the Medieval World theme park and finds himself transported back in time.

I'm reminded of Chris Rock's recent rant on the need to take out Flavor Flav to protect the image of Black America.

Personally, I'd like to take down a lot of the bad movie selection on Hulu these days, including St. Elmo's Fire. I've never understood why people like this racist, homophobic, badly dated glorification of post-college brat-packers.

I've jumped on the hipster bandwagon and placed my order for a couple Buddha Machines (a grey one and an orange one of course). With articles now in the New York Times, the New Yorker and on NPR's All Music Considered, I've finally cracked and decided I must make my own ambient noises at home.

By the way, you can also download the Buddha Box on iTunes for only $3.95, but if you want the full on experience, you'll want to pick up the original in a variety of colors here.

As soon as the boxes arrive, I'll post my first Brian Eno inspired masterpiece.

Kitty porn should be banned from the blog, I know.

a great miracle happened here...

A plane just landed in the water 800 yards from my apartment, and the news keeps reporting more and more miraculous news about the passengers and crew, like how they were being safely moved off the plane within minutes. AMAZING.

Somebody take that pilot to The Palm for a steak dinner. It's just down the street!

A whirlwind trip to Disney World deserves a whirlwind paced video. Here's my trip in under 2 minutes, leaving out the part where I had a fever and looked like crap...

this used to be my playground...

So, I'm back at Walt Disney World this week gearing up for the marathon on Sunday and I have to point out that this is the first time I've been here in nearly ten years. It's been sixteen years since I worked at Disney World and I knew that this trip would open the floodgates of memories, while keeping me a little sad that so much has changed.

Other than the fact that Lake Buena Vista is the fastest developed land mass since modern Manhattan, it's really great to see the parks moving ahead and flourishing for the most part. After spending today at the Magic Kingdom and a little at EPCOT, I see that Disney World is recession proof still due to Brazilian tour groups. God bless them. Brazilians, please come to New York and spend more of that money. We'll even let your tour guide hold one of those crazy red or white flags as they parade you in groups of one hundred.
I finally got my hair cut at the Barber Shop on Main Street USA, which was a truly memorable experience. I have a new best friend in the fabulous Jamaican stylist who cut my hair and gossiped to me about the latest back stage antics as soon as she learned I was a former cast member. It was hysterical. I guess they've done away with the barbershop quartets and lollypops and replaced them with funky hairstyles complete with colored hair gels and "pixie dust" confetti and glitter. I opted out of that finishing touch, but many kids walked out of there sparkling like a glam rock concert audience.

More memories to share later in the trip, but I had to post this incredible trailer for Disney's Space Buddies, which I saw a poster for on my way to the monorail. I haven't been this excited since Sandy Duncan and The Cat From Outer Space...

Who says there's no talent in Ypsilanti, Michigan? I love this video made by the crazy Strassel children that I grew up down the street from. This is for their mom's 60th Birthday, but enjoyable even if you don't know her.
