So I'm walking back from an interview for an Executive Level job at a major media company when my Pokémon Go starts buzzing (because I'm really a 44 year old kid).

A wild Rapidash, right at my dressy feet

In addition to a Pinsir (CP335) and a Rapidash (CP296) in the nearby vicinity, it turns out my neighborhood synagogue (The Actor's Temple on 47th street) is also a Pokémon Gym.

I quickly enter, begin the battle, and for the first time, this chosen one was the victor, taking the formerly Victor status for team Mystic.  In other words, I went Nintendo equivalent of Judah Maccabee.

So there I am in my moment of glory when this manic early-twenties girl comes up to me franticly.  "Are you playing Pokémon right now?  Somebody just took my gym and now I'm afraid to leave here."

Go for God, stay for the Pikachu.

I explained I was pretty new to the game, and actually got some good tips from her after she realized I had only beaten one of the lower levels.

"You know that's my Temple actually," I explained.  "We should charge money during the afternoon and give people a place to battle Pokémon inside."

"That's a really Jewish thing to say," she quickly pointed out.

Temporary Content is King
(for now)

Comedy Central gets it.
So does ESPNAT&TVicePeople and National Geographic.
They're the first to embrace SNAPCHAT's feature "Discover," offering those media partners the opportunity to share video content on the platform.
Of course, SNAPCHAT, and its over 100 million monthly users, get it too. At its heart, the app has always been about storytelling, allowing users to share personally created images and video direct to friends and followers, as well as the general public.
Whether content providers like it or not (and that includes all major media companies), the short attention span is here. And it's disposable.
SNAPCHAT has created a way to push relevant information and entertainment directly to those interested, currently in the form of photos, videos, texts and live chats. If you missed that content during its 24 hour window, it probably will be replaced with the next must-see thing.
This is a media trend that shouldn't surprise anyone. Just turn to this week's prime example - Superbowl Ads. No longer are the ads new to us on game day, having been viewed, reviewed and in some cases rejected, days before their hefty price-tag placement. In this case, the content is already part of the zeitgeist pre-game.
Today, water-cooler topics happen in real-time, something of which SNAPCHAT has had their eye on since launch.
Short term branded content is simply the next big format for storytelling giants. Those stepping up to the podium to embrace it are the pioneers (at least for now).
TODD SOKOLOVE is a pop-culture contributor toFORCES OF GEEKa podcasting pioneer withBEWARE OF THE BABYLON and a spare timephotographer whose work "should be in a gallery," according to his dad.
To follow him on SnapChat. Open your Snapchat App, point the camera at this image below and tap the screen. Thanks.
SNAPCHAT on "Discover"
Discover is different because it has been built for creatives. All too often, artists are forced to accommodate new technologies in order to distribute their work. This time we built the technology to serve the art: each edition includes full screen photos and videos, awesome long form layouts, and gorgeous advertising.
Discover is new, but familiar. That’s because Stories are at the core - there’s a beginning, middle, and end so that editors can put everything in order. Every edition is refreshed after 24 hours - because what’s news today is history tomorrow.
Discover is fun and easy to use. Tap to open an edition, swipe left to browse Snaps, or swipe up on a Snap for more. Each channel brings you something unique – a wonderful daily surprise!

ENGAGE!
some helpful social media tips
for your personal accounts and efforts....

Friends and followers are always asking me how I find the time to be proficient on my personal social media channels.
There's not really a simple explanation other than I've been doing it a long time, I enjoy creating the content, and I've picked up a few techniques here and there to keep my audience engaged. A lot of it comes from personal experience, and techniques I've learned in my professional career as a Television Marketing executive have influenced my personal growth.
Also, I'm able to travel through time, when not using the services of my social media robot army.
Here are some helpful hints for bringing more quality activity to your personal life online...
ALWAYS FIND THE TIME
There are 24 hours to a day. That's 1,440 minutes. Or 86,400 seconds. Use a handful of those seconds toTweet. Use a minute or two to share a photo on Instagram. Pull aside an hour to Vlog or Blog. Rate something either Funny or Die. Keep track of movies you watch with quick reviews on Flixster. You can spend hours or you can spend seconds. Do at least something each day.
YEAH, BUT WHAT ABOUT?
FUN FACT: There's nobody else in the entire world like you. Your perspective is unique.
What's your take on something happening right now, or something that happened earlier today?
What do you want to get off your chest? Better yet, is there something trending on Facebook or Twitterthat you might be able to share with your audience in a unique way?
I just watched the trailer tonight for ANT-MAN, and in addition to posting my endorsement (like hundreds of other nerds), I shared in a short tweet my dream casting choice if I had directed the film.
ENGAGE AND BE ENGAGING
Always, and I mean always engage your audience native to the strengths of the particular outlet. Is the Vine you just posted really all that loop-worthy, or would the video be better as a one-time play on Instagram? Are you checking your Twitter notifications regularly and continuing conversations with your Tweeps? Did that blog post contain links to things your readers might want to learn more about? Are you explaining those random photos of your commute to work on Snapchat with some text or bad-ass scribbles?
DON'T OVER-THINK IT
Relax, it's just social media. You've probably said something you wish you hadn't at least five times today at the office. Online, you have the power to delete something after second-guessing its validity to exist.
Feel free to tweet something outrageous, post that photo you think could win a contest, share that article you just finished reading. Go with the flow. This is your personal brand from your head to the screen.
HAVE FUN
If it's a hassle, and/or you feel pressured to be a part of the social media zeitgeist, then it's probably not for you. And that's okay. Just because your friends are more jived about Google+, doesn't mean you can't love your Goodreads account. You certainly shouldn't feel pressured to keep up with each and every one of your accounts. Feel good about the key ones, check in every once and a while with the others.

Then suddenly, SNAP!
I get Snap Chat

Over the holiday I witnessed my nephew's obsession with SNAPCHAT story.

From Thanksgiving weekend with his family, he was able to experience some moments from his friend's weekend in virtual real time, and emotionally connect with their day's activities.

Here's a video helper for anyone that thinks SNAPCHAT is just for temporary pics...

I'm TSokolove on Snapchat, btw.
