Now Ranting on ScreenRant

Since starting this blog way back in 2004, I've grown to love writing a little more with each passing year.

It has been an honor to share my life with, at least a hundred people through the years.  And I have the incredible 21¢ from Google Analytics to prove it.

Of course, my real fifteen minutes of fame has come from a side-gig over at the incomparably cool Forces of Geek, where I've had the pleasure of sharing movie reviews, nostalgia trips and now a new podcast about sequels, remakes and reboots called Oh No They Didn't.

If there's one thing that my recent professional full-time job seeker gig has generated, it's a desire to be a lot more creative on a daily basis.  I've probably started more side projects during the past few months than I can keep track of.

But now I'm being paid to write about the biz, and I'm enjoying the structure a lot.

You can now read my work over at ScreenRant here. I'm on their News beat for starters, but hopefully I'll be able to get some interviews and reviews up in due time.

You'll continue to find Beware of the Blog a great place for my occasional personal rants, shares of ephemeral knowledge and incredibly well structured Haikus.

In the meantime, please bookmark all the links above, and do subscribe to the new podcast over on iTunes or Google Play (better yet, write us up a glowing review).

phenomenal filmrolls...

When I was a projectionist, back in the day, I loved watching the celluloid travel through the platter system of our machines, and the color tones created by light leaking from the bulb to the floor.

Here's a phenomenal example of fully assembled 35mm prints back-lit to showcase the emotional color tone of the full film, photographed by Reiner Riedler...

blu bond...

Yes, indeed. I am freaking out over this week's CES announcement of a complete Bond Blu-ray set being released. Wish I could have been at CES for this in person, but here's the next best thing...

see somewhere

One of the best films out right now is in limited distribution, but if you get the chance, do check out Sophia Coppola's SOMEWHERE, which contains this hysterical sequence of dialogue I'm adding to my best of all time list:

Girl - "It's about this girl that's in love with this guy, but he's a vampire and his whole family is vampires, so she can't really be with him."

Dad - "So why doesn't she become one too?"

Girl - "Cause she can't. He doesn't want to turn her into a vampire. And if she gets too close to him, he won't be able to help himself.

Dad - "Oh man."

i'm feeling blu...

This being 2010, the year we make contact, I've taken a major leap into the 21st century and upgraded from a 1988 hand-me-down tube television to a High Def Panasonic flatscreen and a Blu-ray player!

You would think this film geek would have been on the Blu-ray bandwagon the second the first player came off the line, but the high cost was just waaaaay to much to self-justify. I can tell you after doing a lot of research that not only have the costs of players and monitors greatly decreased, but the selection and quality of product out there's pretty amazing.

The wishful thinker in me has always been an early adopter. Back in the 80s, I purchased CDs way in advance of owning a player. In the 90s, I owned a handful of Laserdiscs before landing a discontinued player at the tail end of that trend. So, it's no surprise to you when I say I had a couple Blu-ray discs purchased before caving into the player buy.

Haven't had a chance to watch them all, but I've started off the Blu-ray collection with what I consider to be some essentials...

Gremlins
Hellraiser
Pinocchio
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Poltergeist
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration
Heathers

I'll be reporting back after my next chance to veg out in front of the new set-up!
